TARCOG donates four vehicles to Limestone County

TARCOG was excited to transfer the title and keys to four vehicles today to the Limestone County Commission.

Commission Chair Collin Daly said the vehicles will be used by the Limestone County Council on Aging (COA) to deliver Meals on Wheels and assist with other transportation needs for the county’s senior population.

TARCOG Executive Director Michelle Gilliam Jordan said the agency’s vehicles are used daily to serve residents throughout DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, Madison, and Marshall counties. When reach 150,000 miles they are replaced and then donated to a TARCOG member government in need of additional vehicles.

Limestone County COA Director Heidi Stinnett said the vehicles will make a tremendous impact on the organization’s transportation fleet for delivering meals and transportation to and from the county’s six senior centers, doctors’ appointments and other needs.

Also attending today’s ceremony were TARCOG Board Members Limestone Commissioner Johnny Turner, Board President and Madison City Councilwoman Connie Spears, Vice President and Athens City Councilman James Lucas, Secretary and Guntersville City Councilman John Myers, and TARCOG Director of Finance Gerald Carter, Director of Aging Programs Sheila Dessau-Ivey, and Director of Economic Development & Planning Lee Terry.

Driving the cars to their new home included the Council on Aging Transportation Crew Lisa Flanagan, Sonya Berzett, Felica Powers, and Leslie Williams.
