Name: Shanika Moore
Job Title: Case Manager II/Personal Choice Counselor
How long have you been at TARCOG and what do you do? I’ve been here two years and one month. I am a Case Manager II/Personal Choice Counselor. I work with clients as a case manager but I also support supervisors and our team.
As case managers, we assist in managing the wellbeing of individuals with disabilities or who are elderly. We help our clients schedule appointments, order equipment and just make sure their needs are being met so that they can remain in their home rather than go into a facility setting.
With the Personal Choice role, I help enroll clients into the program which allows a family member or friend to receive financial assistance to provide care for the client in their home. I enroll and train the caregiver on how to use the app technology that’s used for the program.
What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a schoolteacher.
What do you hope to accomplish within the next year? To become a better leader and learn more about children with Autism.
Who is your hero and why? I can’t say I have a hero, I can say I look at my village as a whole. My village includes numerous individuals who help guide me and lead me down the path I’m on today.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? Maybe fly to an exotic resort in the Bahamas.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? Leaders walk with their heads up and followers look down. You belong in every room you walk into so show up and show out.
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? Not much because I am an introvert, so allowing people to celebrate me is probably my most daring thing.
Who knows you the best? My son, Lamar.
What would you do if you won the lottery? First, I would not tell anyone there would only be signs. I would pay off all my debt, invest, give back to my son’s mentor organization, and help my closest friends.
