Six honored by Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame

August 14, 2025

An outstanding group of senior adults, including several from North Alabama, were honored this week with induction into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Prattville.

Two of 10 permanent state inductees into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame are from North Alabama, including:

  • Zaheer Khan, of Huntsville (Madison)
  • Betty D. Moore, of Grant (Jackson)

In addition, DiAnne Callahan of Fort Payne, was honored with a Special Award. DiAnne works for the DeKalb County Council on Aging helping senior adults save money on prescription medications through the SenioRx program.

One of four couples recognized throughout the state for being married 65 years or more included James and Robbie Wigginton of Morgan County.

And two of the 26 people honored for being 100 years or older were from Madison County, including Nell Lane Bradford and Howard Polin.

“This is the one major event in Alabama each year where individuals are formally honored and recognized for their selfless advocacy and dedication to serving older adults in their community,” said Jean Brown, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Senior Services. “We are proud to celebrate the achievements of the Alabamians selected for the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame awards.”

The Hall of Fame was created by the Alabama Legislature in 1983 to honor and recognize Alabamians aged 60 and older for their outstanding contributions to the lives of older Alabamians.
