Athens Receives TAP Funds

On May 5th, 2017 the City of Athens was notified by the Alabama Department of Transportation that it had been awarded $393,024.00 in “Transportation Alternatives Program” funding to provide for the construction of a new sidewalk system. Assistance in developing this grant application was provided by TARCOG. These improvements will connect the existing U.S. Highway 31 and Pryor Street commercial/retail corridors to local low-mod housing complexes, the new Athens High School and Athens State University.  The City of Athens will provide twenty percent of required match funding ($98,256.00) for a total project cost estimated at $491,280.00.
