Alabama Elderly Simplified Application Project for Food Assistance

TARCOG is helping with the Alabama Elderly Simplified Application Project for food assistance. It is a major outreach effort to reach a segment of our population facing barriers to participation in the Food Assistance Program. Many seniors today have barriers that make it difficult for them to apply for food assistance, such as transportation, mobility and disability. This outreach program is designed to increase the efficiency of the Food Assistance Program and improve delivery of food assistance benefits to eligible households by improving program administration.

To be eligible to use this application process, all household members need to be age 60 or older, and have no earned income. If you know of anyone who might need this program, please tell them to call 1-800-AGE-LINE and speak to Ashley or Linda. Most of the application can be done over the phone; the application is mailed to the eligible household for a signature and any back-up paperwork that is needed. Most out of pocket medical expenses can be used as deductions from the household income. When we receive the completed packet back in the TARCOG office, we fax it directly to Montgomery.
